Aspen Design & Build Ltd, is owned and run by managing director Duncan MacArthur who is a Joiner by trade and has a wealth of building trade experience, spanning 35 Years. Duncan was born and brought up on a croft on the Isle of Tiree off the west coast of Scotland until he was 17 years old. He left Tiree to serve a joinery apprenticeship in Oban with block release at the Reid Kerr College, Paisley. At college he won both Apprentice of the Year and the Gilbert Ash Trophy for Excellence in the City and Guilds of London exams. After a few years working as a joiner in Glasgow and London, Dun can went on to manage building projects on both large and small building sites around the UK working as foreman, project manager, and contracts manager before spending several years as a property manager on a corporate retreat facility in North Carolina, USA.
On his return to Scotland, Duncan spent time working as a property manag er for a company in Glasgow. Duncan originally came to Inverness to open a property office in Inverness for the company he was contracted to in Glasgow. Duncan enjoyed the area so much he decided to make h is home here so started Aspen to tide him over until a real job turned up. The rest is history as they say!
Duncan ’ s son Ruairidh, has been working with aspen from a young age, In the early days Ruairidh would spend school holidays working alongside his father on various projects learning skills of the trade and the value of hard work. Upon leaving school in 2010, Ruairidh started working full time for aspen as a labourer and quickly progressed to the point where he could work independently and manage small projects. In 2011 Ruairidh moved to Glasgow to study Finance and Economics at Strathclyde University. During summer breaks from university, Ruairidh would return home to pick up where he had left off at aspen, taking more responsibility as he progressed. In 2015 Ruairidh Graduated wit h a 2:1 and returned home again to work on the tools until he found a Job in Finance. Ruairidh moved into a more office based role in 2016 to assist with management of larger projects and pricing, which was well suited to his finance background and decided to make the role permanent.
Our office is managed by Angie MacKinnon who has a wealth of experience of the admin of construction companies having cut her teeth with Morrison construction, Earthtec, and Naston.
